Obtain and review your credit reports to identify accounts, negative items, inaccuracies, and issues requiring attention.
By the end of this upgrade you will have obtained your credit reports from all three bureaus, reviewed each line item, and produced a list of confirmed accounts, negative items, and any errors to dispute.
Request your report from each major credit bureau using the official free-access channel available in your country; avoid third-party sites that require a paid subscription.
For each bureau report, record the creditor name, account type, open date, balance, and status (open, closed, in collections).
Compare each listed account to accounts you know you opened; flag anything you don't recognize immediately.
Note any late payments, collections, charge-offs, or public records, including the date reported and how long it can legally remain on the report.
Verify your name, addresses, and employer history listed are correct, since mismatches can indicate mixed files or errors.
Write down any account, balance, or personal-info error found on any of the three reports as a candidate for a formal dispute.
